GIPC urges local companies to maintain international standards

MR YOFI GRANT

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Yofi Grant has called on Ghanaian companies to enhance the standard of their products to attract and keep global business partners.

The GIPC CEO maintained that it is important for Ghanaian companies to uphold quality standards especially in the industry sector of the economy.

He made the assertion at this years’ Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Mr. Grant was of the opinion that ensuring quality standards will make Ghanaian companies more competitive.

“For a very long time, quality has not been the focus. The focus has been on supplying needs not on quality of the products, but now as we’re trying to be a regional hub and also compete, quality becomes an issue.”

He added, “We should emphasize on quality of products, performance, goods and services in order to be globally competitive.”

Highlighting the requirement of capital inflows, Mr. Grant stated that international companies that come to Ghana insist on certain standards and quality in the products they export.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced measures to set up a policy that will improve the packaging of locally produced food items.

According to the ministry, the initiative will aid the implementation of the Planting for Food and Jobs policy, as well as the One-District One-Factory project to preserve and package food for local consumption and export.
