Minister for Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful has emphasized the importance of integrating technology into the country’s systems, to improve security at various points of entry.
Mrs. Owusu Ekuful believes general improvements in security can lead to a boost in tourism for the country.
Speaking to Citi Business News on the sidelines of the inauguration of seven biometric e-Gates at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Mrs. Owusu Ekuful highlighted the role of such systems in keeping dangerous elements out of the country.
“It is part of the digitalization agenda of the government. So now you have total integrated e-immigration system. You even have criminals on the watch list and the stop list stored on the system. So if you are travelling under the identity of these criminals you would be picked up by the system.”
The Minister also touched on other scenarios that the e-Gates at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) tackle.
“If you’re using a fake document it can be picked up by the system. It improves our general security and also helps with our data collection efforts so we can profile people and keep track of them better.”
