According to the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana’s tourism sector is worth over US$ 350 million.

Currently, the authority pegs the sector’s contribution to GDP at 8.5%, creating over 350,000 direct jobs.

As part of moves to increase these figures Ghana has outdoored a National Tourism Development Plan –spanning 2013 to 2027.With 10 regions, Ghana has a tourist attraction in all the regions.

Some popular tourist sites in Ghana include the Kakum National Park, Cape Coast Castle, Mountain Afadjato, Mole National Park, , Nzulezo ,and the Aburi Gardens.

As part of its projections, the National Tourism Development Plan forecasts revenue generation of 1.5 billion US dollars from the sector in 2017; while expected revenue for 2022 and 2027   are pegged at 2.5 billion; and 4.3 billion dollars respectively.

The gross contribution of foreign exchange to GDP generated by tourism is also expected to rise from 5% in 2017 to 5.20% in 2022.

According to the National Tourism Development Plan Ghana’s tourism sector will grow to 5.70% in the terminal year of the 2013-2027 period. In 2013, arrivals were at 994,000.Currently, the figure is said to have reached 1.3 million.

Total projected income in the sector is expected to rise from the 2010 level of USD 194 million to USD 439 million in 2017.The plan further predicts the revenue to rise in subsequent years until it reaches USD 1.3 billion in the terminal year of 2027.

According to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the sector could increase its income from  USD 204.9 million in 2013 to USD 391.9 million in 2017.

By the terminal year of the Plan (2027) the figure will be above USD 2.0 billion.

From total revenue of about USD 126 million generated by the industry in 2010, and  USD 205 million in 2013, the Ghana Tourism Authority expects revenue to reach USD 392 million in 2017.
