In their efforts to enhance student-faculty ratio and augment quality teaching, the University of Ghana Business School welcomed a new lecturer, Dr. Sheena Lovia Boateng, to the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship who has been at post since August 15, 2019.
She holds Doctoral and Undergraduate degrees in Marketing from the University of Ghana and has a keen interest in marketing and also in working in academia. She is the first female to complete a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Ghana and is also the founder of the Women in Tertiary Education (WITE) Network, which seeks to provide support for women in tertiary education concerning academic research, family-life and career balance.
During her undergraduate program, Dr. Boateng was one of three students chosen out of a class of 235 students to pursue an E-commerce and International Marketing program at the Harstad University College, Norway. In Norway, her group research project on the “Influence of color on consumer purchase intention” won the University’s best thesis award.
In 2013, She was upgraded from her MPhil Marketing degree program to begin a Ph.D. Marketing degree program at the University of Ghana Business School. She subsequently progressed to become the First Doctoral Student in University of Ghana to present a conference paper and a doctoral consortium paper at the Academy of Marketing Conference (2015), Limerick, Ireland.
Dr. Sheena Boateng’s research interests include online relationship marketing, fashion marketing, digital business strategy, electronic learning adoption, entrepreneurship, online branding and advertising, and social media marketing.
She has expertise in enabling companies to develop products and services to respond to the dynamics of consumer behavior. Prior to joining the University of Ghana, Dr. Sheena worked as an adjunct lecturer at Webster University while consulting on an African Development Bank/Ministry of Finance Entrepreneurship Project and also on a Women Rights Online Project for the Worldwide Web Foundation.
She has published six journal publications, three books, four book chapters, five published conference papers, one working paper, and one industry report. Her academic work has been published in the International Journal of Bank Marketing, Journal of Financial Services Marketing, Smart Learning Environments and the Journal of Educational Technology Systems.
Dr. Sheena’s paper on signaling theory published in the International Journal of Bank Marketing (2019) is listed among the most popular papers in the journal for the first quarter of 2019 – Full text downloaded 1156 times since 2019 (last checked 9/5/2019).
She is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Study Journal, Emerald Publishing Limited, UK and reviews for other international journals.
