The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced that of one of its employees at its Tema office has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.
According to GRIDCo, the employee tested positive for the virus on Monday 6th July, 2020.
A statement from the company said the employee has since been isolated and is receiving treatment in accordance with infection control protocols.
“An employee of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has tested positive for COVID-19. The Company received the news on Monday, July 6, 2020. The employee has since been isolated for treatment by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) COVID-19 Management Team, in line with the established protocols”, the statement noted.
It added that “a comprehensive contact tracing process has also begun in order to ensure appropriate measures are taken to protect the lives of those likely to have come into contact with the infected person.”
The statement further noted that “as an additional precautionary measure; a decision has been taken by GRIDCo Management to undertake mass testing of all staff who have been working at its Tema office since June 15, 2020, in order to immediately identify, isolate and treat employees who may have contracted the virus.”
The company has engaged the COVID-19 Team in Tema to manage the process.
Meanwhile, GRIDCo has assured its customers and stakeholders that it remains committed to their safety whilst ensuring uninterrupted power transmission services.
COCOBOD to shut down offices as some staff test positive for COVID-19
This comes shortly after the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) announced a shut down all of its Head Offices and corporate subsidiaries and divisions in Accra for a fumigation exercise after some staff tested positive for COVID-19.
On Monday, the Bulk Oil Storage Transportation Company, BOST, also closed down its head office after 46 staff tested positive for the virus, increasing the number of infections in institutional establishments.
These cases are being recorded not long after the Trade and Industry Ministry announced new guidelines for institutions in curtailing the spread of COVID-19.
As at July 6, 2020, Ghana has recorded 21, 077 novel Coronavirus cases with 129 deaths and 16, 070 recoveries.
