“The State has taken all the necessary measures to meet the needs of the country in terms of wheat in case of decline in the national production, said Saturday Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing Abdeslam Chelghoum during his working visit to the province of Bouira (122 km east of Algiers).
“In case of decline in the national wheat production, the State has taken the necessary measures to import wheat to meet the citizens’ needs,” affirmed Chelghoum in a press briefing held on the sidelines of his visit to Dirah (South of Bouira) where he launched a campaign of fight against fires.
This year, the agricultural production and cereals in particular have been affected by the lack of rainfalls and the drought in some regions of the country, this is why we are expecting a slight drop in the production of cereals,” said the minister.
He called on the farmers to step up efforts to increase the production of wheat in Bouira, where the current production is estimated at 35 quintals/hectare at El-Asnam plateau.
