The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has backed attempts by government to use all legitimate means necessary including threats of new lockdowns in order to communicate the seriousness of COVID-19 and its potential negative impact on people and businesses.
Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at the weekly Coronavirus update on Monday disclosed that government will not hesitate to ensure stricter enforcement of Legislative Instrument and imposition of other movement restrictions.
Speaking to Citi Business News on the rising COVID-19 numbers, the CEO of the AGI, Seth Twum-Akwaboah, said the true magnitude of the danger must be communicated to ensure improved compliance to the safety protocols.
“People need to know that there is a threat ahead that can only be dealt with by people abiding by the protocols. If not, then the danger will only grow for all of us to lose. So I think the sensitization and education are important. But of course, what I also think is important is having the required structures and facilities to support those who have fallen victim to the COVID-19 situation.”
“People must go by the protocols, the enforcement agencies should work to make sure they prevent people from being recalcitrant. Because that’s the only way we can prevent a spread and ensure a return to normal life,” he added.
