The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA), Akwasi Agyeman has stated that the Marine Drive Project will change the face of Ghana’s tourism industry while it creates thousands of jobs.
According to him, the project is already attracting investors ahead of its implementation.
The marine drive project will see government partner investors to develop an approximately 241 acres of land for tourism purpose along the beach from James Town to Osu in Accra.
Speaking at the Ghana Tourism Investment forum in Accra, Akwasi Agyeman noted that the project will rake in millions of dollars as revenue for government.
“The Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project seeks to develop the entire stretch of the land containing the Marine Drive into world-class, beachfront tourism enclave to meet the needs of business and leisure tourists, while making Ghana a preferred competitive and tourism destination in Africa,” he said.
Mr. Agyeman explained the core objective of the project is to decongest the city-center of non-conforming uses and reinstate a new land use structure benefiting the capital city.
He added that it will also intensify the use of land to be consistent with urban regeneration framework.
He pointed out that the project will also ensure high values of land and also counteract the apparent scarcity of land in Accra.
“The Marine Drive Project will also create an environment to attract high levels of investment in the city center for businesses and leisure purposes”.
He stated that, the project is anchored on the vision of changing the face of tourism in Ghana and when completed will feature hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, cultural village, recreational centers, malls and convention center.
Touching on other projects, Mr. Agyeman observed that the Ghana Tourism Authority is also embarking different schemes such as Ghana Akwaaba Hotel, Ghana Center of the WorldMuni Lagoon Eco in Winneba and Highway Rest Stops among others.
