The construction of phase two of the Kumasi Airport is expected to be completed ahead of schedule, this is according to aviation Minister Cecilia Daapah.
The completion date will now be 2019 instead of the initial date of 2020.
Madame Cecilia Daapah made this known at the sod cutting ceremony for Phase 2 of the project.
According to her, the contractors in charge of the project have agreed to speed up the project by six months upon her request.
“Although the stipulated construction period was 24 months, I have appealed to the contractors to humbly accelerate and put in extra hours to finish the project in 18 months”.
“They have assured me that they will favorably consider the request.”
Madame Daapah also explained that the ministry is doing its best to ensure that as many local entrepreneurs take advantage of the developing aviation space in Ghana to propel tourism.
“The Aviation Ministry has strategized towards the attainment of attractive infrastructure as well as the establishment of an institutional policy framework for enhanced safety and security of air travel, we are also in talks with local investors and entrepreneurs to be encouraged to set up strong airlines, to make use of the aviation infrastructure to bring in investment and boost tourism”, she explained.
The redevelopment will see the expansion of the runway, as well as the installation of aeronautic lights to ensure adequate visibility on the tarmac.
