The 2018 Best National Farmer, Mr. James Boateng has called for value addition to Ghana’s basic exports products to improve foreign earnings.
He maintained that the country should begin to enhance its storage of farm produce to create room for value to be added to farm products.
Mr. Boateng was speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show in the maiden on air series as part of the 2019 Citi Business Festival.
He explained Ghana could significantly increase its earnings from the Agribusiness sector which is worth over 5 billion dollars annually for the country.
“So much value can be put on anything you process. In fact it can be as much as 75 percent of the original value being added when you add value through processing”, he said adding that “there are huge issues of post harvest losses”
Mr. Boateng who is a former Group CEO, Cadbury stated that apart from the monetary value, processing agriculture produce will provide access to Ghana on the international market.
