On day three of the petrol shortage which has hit Accra and many parts of the country Citi FM brings you a situational report from Airport Shell fuel station in Accra.
The fuel shortage has resulted in a mad rush for petrol in the few stations with some of the product in Accra.
Citi News’ Nana Boakye Yiadom and Kojo Akoto Boateng described the situation at the Airport Filling station as bizzare and unbearable.
According to them there are hundreds of vehicles and motorists parked within the premises of the station and on the shoulders of the road causing massive traffic and ‘go slow’.
Kojo Akoto said the people waiting in the queue at the Shell filling station were ”livid”, he noted that the people gathered were unhappy. ”Generally there is an atmosphere of despair and anger; because some people have been here since last night, they have queued since yesterday [ Thursday] and when it got to their turn they were told the fuel has run out…,” he said.
Nana Boakye-Yiadom also noted that the fuel shortage has resulted in less traffic in town. He revealed that it took him just 10 minutes to drive from Adabraka to Airport, a journey which usually takes about 45 minutes. ”Poeple have parked their cars generally; those who have fuel have also limited their moverment,” he added.
Interview with motorists
”I was here in the queue since 9:00am, before it got to my turn the petrol got finished; I have been here since morning and I am still waiting. Another added, ”I have been here since 12:00pm. I have been looking for fuel since two days; yesterday I was here and when it got to my turn they said fuel was finished. I have been to Teshie where I also didn’t get. I am trying to talk to someone to get me some from his car so i can go home… Its bad, its bad…!”
One of the customers said he had driven all the way from Tema but could not get any station that had Super in stock.
”Yesterday I was here for about 5 hours I didn’t get fuel; I had to leave my car here; It been hell, I am really frustrated. Iam really disappointed in our leaders…,” another motorist said.
