Citi Business News checks indicate that there is panic within the business community especially within the financial and insurance sectors following the hacking.
Speaking to Citi Business News, the first Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Prosper Adabla said the recent cyber attack on about 10 government websites including the Presidency, should be considered as a major threat even to businesses.
“There are companies in Ghana that builds security walls that manage this sought of efforts. We are climbing a hill because even in the US, they are hacking the US government computers and we Africans are so vulnerable sop what we have decided to is to convene a meeting of the private sector players with the private sector foundation and we will come with paper. But its quit a difficult time for us in the country,” he said.
On the matter of what businesses should be doing in the interim, Dr. Adabla asked business owners to put in all the necessary security measures they can to private their website from being hacked asking them to invest heavily into their IT support team employing individuals who have the expertise to always update their security fire walls to prevent these hacks.
First Vice President of GCCI told Citi Business News that hacking of websites is a national security issue which needs the attention of the government in addressing the issue.
“This is a very big security issue that needs to be addressed properly, its needs to be addressed on the international level, governmental level and the private level, so anything we say will have to be coordinated properly”
He said once the Private Enterprise Foundation meets they would come out with some procedures and they would know what is next.
