The Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has warned the business community to desist from dealing with the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and industry(STCCI) , describing their operations as illegal.
This comes after a court battle following the decision by the Sekondi-Takoradi branch of the chamber to break away from the mother group due to some disagreements.
The break-away group is currently registered as a Non-Governmental Organization.
But speaking to Citi Business News, the President of the GCCI Seth Adjei Baah said the group is illegally using the name Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry for their operations.
“The chamber was established by an LI, and as such they have gone to the Registrar General to register such an NGO, operating under that name. we went to the Registrar General department and they realized it was a mistake ,they invited them to come and they said the case was in court and so they will not come to cancel the name …that name is illegal for them to use” , he added.
Meanwhile the Vice Chairman of the break-away Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Cadman Dadzie has dismissed the accusation as untrue.
Mr Dadzie said,” we are a legal entity , registered with the Registrar General’s department which is the statutory body responsible for registration of businesses as an association limited by guarantee, we have our certificate …for anybody to say we are illegal , I think that the person may have some other (cynical ) intentions”.
