Unilever’s Chief Human Resource Officer, Douglas Baillie visits Ghana

The Global Chief Human Resource Officer of Unilever, Mr. Douglas Baillie has paid a 2- day working visit to Ghana to assess the company’s operations in the country and to reaffirm the company’s commitment to Ghana as growing economy and regional manufacturing hub.

He was accompanied by Mrs. Mechell Chetty, Vice President Human Resource, Central Africa and Ms. Sotamaa Ritva, Chief Legal Officer, Unilever, Corporate / Strategic.

Whilst in the country, the team had the opportunity to interact with the Unilever Ghana Leadership Team, Key Unilever distributors, consumers, shoppers as well as the employees.

Mr. Baillie and his team undertook a trade visit to the Palace Supermarket, Ghana’s biggest supermarket in terms of floor space, as well as the Madina market.

The main objective of the trade visit was for the team to understand the Ghanaian market.

Mr. Baillie and the team also toured the Foods and Personal Care factories of the Unilever Tema factory where they were exposed to the factory line capability and recent upgrades and investments that have been made into the factory in Tema.

At a town hall session with employees, Mr. Baillie reiterated the skills needed for our future leaders and underscored the need for employees to live by the values of the company.

Speaking at a Lead to Learn session with some selected students from Ghanaian universities, under the theme “Leadership in the global workplace”, Mr. Baillie urged the participants to imbibe themselves in the principles of always working with discipline, trust and above all as a team. He inspired the students to have the ‘can do’ spirit as this will sustain them in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment we find ourselves in.
