Algeria’s Dates Export Market Share Slightly Up in Four Years

Algeria’s dates export market share slightly increased between 2010 and 2014, noted a study by the National Agency for Export Promotion (Algex) on global trade of dates.

Algeria, which is the 8th world’s largest exporter, has its market share increase from 3.3% in 2010 to 5% in 2014.

Dates represent one (1) billion of world trade, according to the prospecting study of Algex, which APS received a copy.

In value and in quantity, the national exports increased by $ 22.5 million (16,000 tons) in 2010 to $39 million (26,000) tons in 2014, 93% of them are Deglet Nour label dates, 6% fresh dates and 0.2% dry dates.

Ranked among the world’s main dates producers with 9 million quintals, Algeria however exports 3% of its production.

Tunisia tops the rankings with a 22% of market share, Pakistan (11%), Saudi Arabia (9%), the United Arab Emirates (7.9%), Iran (7.9%) and Iraq (7.5%).
