German based tyre producer, Continental Tire has begun operations in Ghana as part of the company’s target to spread its works across the West African region.
According to the company, Ghana’s strategic location, coupled with the relative political stability, makes it a gateway for regional trade and investments into the West African sub region.
Continental Tire which has an existing presence in Ghana, through a long-term partnership with Rainbow Motors has formalised its operation in Ghana as its West African regional headquarters.
Speaking to Citi Business News, the Managing Director of Continental Tire Sub-Saharan Africa Shaun Uys said the launch of the new West Africa legal entity in Ghana is as a result of the growing economic importance of the country on a global scale.
“We are here for the long term as the West African region cannot be captured in one day. We believe we have a strong businesses plan; we need to meet and honour the business plan as we satisfy the West African market,” he said.
He stressed that Ghana is strategically positioned to help the company reach and serve the region.
“That is the reason why we have come and it’s important that we establish ourselves. We need to hire local people and train them to run the business and understand it,” he explained.
The new legal entity in Ghana will focus on developing the local market and maximise its exposure across the region as part of the growth strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
