Individuals or groups that work to support and improve the lives of disadvantaged communities have got a boost following the launch of a campaign to identify and support them by a local telecom firm.
The “Airtel Touching Lives Initiative” seeks to recognise and support individuals or groups that have made significant contribution to their communities to make their work sustainable, Michael Adjei, the Airtel Rwanda managing director, said while launching the drive on Monday.
Adjei said the campaign targets individuals and groups in the areas of community development, health, education, justice, military, business and finance, who provide selfless service to disadvantaged communities or individuals.
He said 26 individuals or groups will benefit from the support that will be provided by the telecom firm to support their projects and help “ensure sustainability and broader outreach.”
“The “Airtel Touching Lives Initiative” is targeting individuals who have been working hard to support their communities in different ways. We call upon the public to be part of the initiative by nominating deserving people and groups whose works need to be recognised and supported,” Adjei said.
He said the initiative is part of the telecom’s corporate social responsibility aimed at giving back to communities in which the telecom operates.
“We are looking forward to partnering with the communities in which we operate in order to help improve the lives of those that will benefit from the initiative.”
“We had a successful year (2015) due to our partnership with customers in everything. Therefore, we want to share this success with customers,” Adjei said.
John Magara, the head of brand and communication at Airtel Rwanda, said the drive is one of the ways the firm seeks to connect and support the communities in which it operates. This will also help promote the culture of giving and serving subscribers, he added.
Nominations for beneficiaries end in a month’s time. To nominate a beneficiary, send an email to CSR_rwanda@rw.airtel.com or call 0731000000. You can also visit any Airtel centre countrywide.
