Tell Ghanaians our good initiatives—MTN to professional bodies

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr. Ebenezer  Twum Asante has appealed to the Institute of Public Relations(IPR)-Ghana,  and other professional bodies to help educate the public on the importance  of multinational companies to the Ghanaian economy.

According to him, even though companies such as MTN and other multinational companies are helping the economy by employing Ghanaians, they are often antagonized and seen as milking the nation.

“Sometimes, it becomes very bad when people make derogatory comments about an organization that is investing millions of dollars to improve the economy”, he said, when the executives and some members of IPR visited MTN’s ultra-modern office at Ridge.

He was of the opinion that the public may believe the professional bodies when the real stories are said by them.

“May be we have to stop telling our own stories and appeal to you, and other professional bodies to say it as you have seen it. May be that would convince the public that we are here to grow with them,” he said.

Recounting some harsh experiences met at the hands of MTN customers, Mr. Asante Twum stated that the company has made it a policy to allow its investments and infrastructural development to speak for the company.

“When we opened our ultra-modern office here in ridge, I thought it was an indication that MTN is ready to make huge investments here and an opportunity to invest in people…and tell Ghanaians we are here to stay. But somebody said, so this is what you use our money for,” he said.

He stated that with the huge investments made by the company, it is a clear indication that MTN wants to make Ghana an integral part of its world operations to make it a hub for telecommunications on the continent.
