New dry port opened Tuesday in Haouch El Bey, Rouiba, in the province of Algiers, to contribute to easing congestion in the port of Algiers, including the traffic of container-carrying trucks.
The dry port is part of the national plan for the creation of logistic areas, validated by the State Holdings Council, and which includes the creation of several logistic areas nationwide, Minister of Transport Boudjemaa Talai told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the facility.
The port is to be managed by the Algerian state-owned company AILC.
The general manager of the AILC, Mahfoudh Cheraitia, said the dry port will contribute to the increasing of the capacity of Algiers port as internal storing areas will be cleared and the road congestion eased, through the reduction of the movement of containers, which will be transported by railway from the Port of Algiers.
