A Special Revenue Mobilization Task Force set up by the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has closed down some mobile phone shops at the Tip-Toe lane near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle for failing to charge VAT as required by law.
Some of the shops closed include Franko Trading Enterprise among others along the lane.
Meanwhile, some members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) whose shops were also closed have expressed displeasure at the move since they were notified just two weeks ago about the move.
The members also stated that they are in negotiations with the GRA to review some of the taxes they consider excessive.
They have threatened to mobilize all their members to resist closure of their shops.
