Algeria: Milk Import Bill Down 23 Percent Over First Five Months

The milk import bill (including the raw materials) decreased down to $399.71 million during the first five months of 2016, against $519.04 million during the same period of 2015, down by 23%, the Customs told APS.

The imported quantities (milk powder, milk cream and milk fat used as inputs) also fell but of lesser rate to stand at 161,225 tons (t) against 172,930 t, down by 6.77 % between the two periods of comparison, said the Customs’ National Centre of Data Processing and Statistics (CNIS).

In addition to the slight fall in imported quantities, the bill declined due to the fall in import prices.

In fact, the milk powder import prices declined during the 1st quarter of 2016 increasing from $2,469 per ton against $3,040 per ton during the same period in 2015 (-20%).
