Ethiopia, Morocco to Beef Up Relations

Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar yesterday to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation and partnership between Ethiopia and Morocco.

African Affairs Director General with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Girma Temesgen, who attended the talks, told journalists that the discussion focused on how both countries could elevate their relations and partnership, and ways Moroccan investors could come here and invest.

He added that both countries have a long-standing relations, both being founding members of the OAU. Ethiopia has opened its embassy in Rabat this year which will further augment their ties. Moreover, the Director General said that Ethiopia can learn from Morocco on human development, irrigation and hospitality. The talks also raised the first joint commission meeting that will be held soon.

Delivering King Mohammed VI special message, Moroccan Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar for his part said: “We appreciate the development and dynamism we are seeing in Ethiopia and we seek to strengthen our ties.”

The Minster also said that the two countries have important role at continental level, and that Africa is in need of strong partnership among its member states.
