The Federal government of Somalia says it seized a shipment of expired food aid imported by a relief agency from Egypt at Mogadishu seaport on Sunday (July 29, 2016).
Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu, the state minister of the interior ministry Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig, said the food aid was destined to drought-hit areas in southern Somalia.
“Somali security forces at Mogadishu harbor, seized 7 containers packed with expired food aid imported from Egypt by a humanitarian agency,” Hidig told reporters in Mogadishu.
Last May, Somali police seized tones of expired food from World Food Programme [WFP] at Mogadishu airport. The food aid was destined for drought affected areas in Gedo region.
