The Government of Morocco has launched a new initiative that seeks to mobilize US$30 billion to assist African countries in the agriculture sector to transform and adapt to changing climate.
According to the media advisory on the 22nd Sitting of the Conference of the Parties (COP22), discussions will center on how to implement the new idea at a comprehensive gathering of high-level experts in African agricultural adaption at this year’s sitting in Marrakech, the Kingdom of Morocco.
The event will showcase the most promising climate adaptation strategies for the continent, which could deliver food security to the 230 million people still suffering from chronic hunger in the region.
According to the team, science, innovation and technology will be at the core of adaption in African agriculture.
This day-long event, which takes place on Sunday, November 13, will explore the most promising solutions already in action, and identify investments required to scale up their success.
Accordingly, particular attention will be paid to interventions in sustainable and resilient soil management, improved agricultural water management and climate risk management.
Key policy recommendations from each session will be captured and developed into a framework for implementation of the Moroccan Adaptation of African Agriculture Initiative that covers all African countries.
