The sixth Africa HR Leaders conference under the theme, “Adding Value through Talent Management, Succession Planning and Predictive HR Analytics has opened in Accra.

Organised by OML Africa, this important event attracted over 100 HR Heads and Directors from across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors who will be addressed by more than thirty experts in the field.

It is sponsored by IBM, Persol Solutions Limited and Hybrid DGM Ghana.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Anita Wiafe-Asinor welcomed delegates and said, “This year we are looking seriously at how to increase the use of data and analytics in the practice of HR and talent management. This area is slowly emerging in Africa and it is about time we took it up to the next level.”

She added, “We will focus on some success stories of organizations that are making important progress and adding value through analytical approaches and technologies to inform and improve people processes and talent-management decisions. As analytics and data-driven capabilities become more important to top management and more accessible and available in HR technological solutions, it is critical for HR leaders to stay abreast with the latest developments, to learn from successful organizations, and to position themselves and their HR teams to add value through the effective use of predictive analytics”.

Dr Benoit Hardy-Vallee, Middle East and Africa Regional Executive, IBM, said IBM had evolved from the days of main frame computers into modern software solutions that improved business practices such as their Talent Management Solutions which they were introducing at the conference.

As a leader on Ghana’s software space, Michael Quarshie, Managing Director of Persol Sytems looked forward to an exciting 3 days of engaging and networking with some of Africa’s leading organisations with the view of impacting on them their SAP Success Factor tools.

He later presented a paper titled, “Low Cost Learning and Employee Development for the Changing Workforce”.

With over 6,000 work-related accidents occurring globally and a daily basis, Taiwo Foluronsho of Hybrid DGM Ghana stressed the need for HR practitioners should make workplace safety a number one priority as it could lead to considerable losses to both employees and employers.

A notable speaker on the opening day was Albert Antwi-Bosiako, Founder of eCrime Bureau revealed insights on what electronic fraud schemes that both employees and non-employees collaborate on to dupe organisations. His presentation was gripping as delegates were brought up to speed with how fraudsters could use various means of stealing money or intellectual property from unassuming victims in the corporate world.

Some organisations attending this event are Ghana Commercial Bank, EOCO, Golden Tulip, HFC, Star Assurance, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ministry of Education, GES, Marie Stopes, African Regent Hotel, National Pension and Regulatory Authority, YARA Ghana, The Royal Bank, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Controller and Accountant General’s Department, Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands, Societe General, Lands Commission, UT Bank and many more.

The sixth Africa HR Leaders conference continues today and ends on Friday.
