Some transport operators have blamed the bad road networks in the country for the frequent damage of vehicles and to some extent accidents on the roads.
The operators have charged government to prioritize the construction of good road networks to prevent the numerous road accidents and also prolong the life span of vehicles.
Stressing the need for good roads, the Marketing Manager for Vivo Energy, Jerry Boakye Dankwah told Citi Business News government must instill a culture of maintenance of the country’s roads in the relevant agencies.
“I think the onus lies with the government to ensure that our roads are safe. Government has the responsibility to build the best of roads. Roads that will last and be safe for our vehicles to travel on. This is something that should be taken seriously,” he appealed.
He pointed out that even though the attitude of drivers is a major factor in road accident, the nature of the roads also makes it difficult for some accidents to be avoided.
“If you look at the rate of accidents in the country presently apart from driver error and a couple of issues, also, you cannot roll out the fact that some of our roads are not good. So I think the government also has to do their best to ensure that our roads are safe. Some of them are not safe for us to travel on,” he said.
Mr. Dankwah spoke to Citi Business News at the sidelines of the launch of VIP Premium Service, a partnership between Vivo Energy and VIP Jeoun Transport Limited.
