Following a total blackout which affected the whole country last night, Citi Business News has gathered that some major parts of the country are still without power.
But the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Engineer William Amuna has assured Ghanaians power will be restored soon.
A cross section of Ghanaians expressed their frustration at the power outage that hit most parts of the country on May4, 2017 around 9:40 pm.
Citi Business News went round some major cities in Accra to check if the power has been restored.
A lady at Mathaheko in Accra told Citi Business News power is yet to be restored.
“Mathaheko here, the light has been off since last night, around 10 o’clock it came on for about two minutes and went back off and we have been without light since,” the person said.
Another said “I was even about to cook, wanted to use the blender and all of a sudden the light went off. I had to iron this morning and I could not. I don’t know what is happening.”
Whereas power has been restored to some areas, others are yet to receive power.
Places in Accra such as Mamprobi, Haatso, Dome, Gbawe and Adenta still had no light as at noon.
Elsewhere in other parts of the country the situation is not different.
Citi FM’s Ashanti Regional correspondent Lauretta Temang reported that parts of the region are still without power.
“Around twelve midnight,t power was restored to some areas like Santaase, Pataase, Kotwi, Breman, Aboabo, Asafo, Gyinyaase , Asokore Mampong and its environs. However, the power supply has not been stable. This morning as at 11, some other areas such as Asoase, Oforikrom, Accra Town, Tech, Atonsu are still in blackout.” she stated.
Meanwhile, Citi FM’s Eastern Regional correspondent Nii Amartey also said the situation is still the same in most parts of the Region.
“So yesterday around 9pm in the evening we experienced total black out in the Eastern Region. As I speak now the lights are still not back in most areas.”
Earlier the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo Engineer Amuna assured power will be restored across the country latest by 10 this morning, while investigation continues to ascertain what caused the total blackout yesterday.
“I’m told that there is a FIDA going towards Pig Farm area which has a problem and the technicians are just working on that so they will be back very soon. We assure that the lights will come on very soon.”
