The Registrar General’s Department (RGD) has served notice it will from next month restrict the generation of Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) at its head office in Accra.
This the Department says is aimed at reducing both human and vehicular congestion at its premises in Accra.
The move is also targeted at achieving the President’s commitment to make Ghana the most business friendly economy in Africa.
In an interview with Citi Business News, the Public Relations Officer at the Registrar General’s Department, Constance Adoma Takyi said the public will not be allowed into the premises unless a Business Registration Document (BRD) is provided.
“This is part of reform measures that we are putting in place to help speed up the registration processes. So we want people who want to register their business to do it within a time frame. We don’t want people coming in where the TIN will be delayed. Because we have to generate TIN for other people who may need it for other services such as passports, ID cards and other things. We want this place to be strictly limited to those who are walking in to register their businesses so that it will be done for them within a record time,” she said.
Earlier, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta announced plans to reduce the registration period of businesses from two weeks to four days.
He stated that this was to reduce corruption in the country as well.
“We just need to create that environment where we respond to you quickly, I don’t need to see you for you to get your certificate,” he stated.
Madam Takyi however says individuals and organizations that are in need of TIN for any other purpose other than registering a Business can visit any of the GRA offices for assistance.
