Some stakeholders in the tourism sector are calling for the creation of a tourism coordinating committee to synthesize activities in the industry for proper monitoring.
According to them, the committee will rid the tourism industry of certain structural deficiencies which slows the growth of the industry.
This follows numerous complaints from tourists about the numerous challenges in the industry.
Speaking at the Akwaaba Forum which forms part of the Citi Business Festival, Professor Kwaku Boakye, from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at University of Cape Coast(UCC) said a coordinating committee will help grow Ghana’s tourism sector to improve revenue.
“I think it’s time we thought of synthesizing the tourism policy framework at a level higher than even just individual ministries. Some of us have started to push for example for the creation of something we call a tourism coordinating committee which is a subcommittee of cabinet, because until you start putting things out at that level, then you would understand why some roads leading to tourist sites are in dilapidated states,” he argued.
He pointed out that even though some infrastructure needs may be seen as the duty of some ministries, fixing them in tourist sites makes them more important hence the sector minister could push for their speedy implementation.
