Business Associations have demanded more sensitization exercises ahead of the implementation of the paperless systems at Ghana’s ports.
Speaking to Citi Business News, the President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce (GNCC), Nana Appiagyei Dankwaso maintained that the exercise must not be ignored since it will help coordinate all activities between freight forwarders and other stakeholders.
The GNCC President argued that addressing the issue should also enable importers clear their goods on time to avoid demurrage.
This he said will help reduce prices of goods on the market and also address the issues of inflation.
“As much as we agree and support that cause, we also want to advise that there is sensitization on this issue for everybody to embrace it for us to take off smoothly. We think that we almost import everything into this country and we also do same trying to reciprocate by doing some exports” he said.
Nana Appiagyei Dankwaso stated that a sensitization will also urge all participants to join in the implementation of the project.
Meanwhile, Director of the Tema Port, Edward Osei assured Citi Business News that the outfit is working diligently to ensure that the paperless regime succeeds when it takes effect.
“We are about 9 points out of 10 when it comes to preparation. Everyone is working hard to make sure that it works. It’s an order from the presidency, you are either part of the solution or you are out. There will be bumps on the road but I think overall, it’ll work and we are up to the challenge,” he said.
