The Minister of Railway Development, Joe Ghartey has revealed that about 200 companies across the world have expressed their desire to invest in Ghana’s railway sector.
According to him, the interest shown by the investors also coincide with the government’s plan to redesign some key railway lines to meet modern standards.
““Over 200 companies have shown interest in the railway from all over the world. From America, Switzerland, Germany China and Ghana…This year we have started the design of the Western rail line from Kojokrom towards Tarkwa and beyond” he stated.
The revelation comes at a time that government is considering to revive Ghana’s railway industry and position it as a key contributor to economic growth.
The minister earlier stated that government intends to revive the industry by partnering with the private sector to lead the railway expansion to cover substantial portions of the country.
Mr Ghartey who spoke during the President’s visit to the Western Region on Monday is also optimistic the investments should propel growth and increase Ghana’s competitiveness across the sub-region.
“By December 2020, this nation will see that the nation has been transformed. And one of the pillars of the transformation will be the railway.”
