Tourism Authority launches single window to track revenue

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has launched a single window platform to monitor revenue collection and drive growth in the industry.

The single window will also track all revenue paid by the respective agencies in the tourism subsector.

The move forms part of efforts to position Ghana as an attractive tourism destination.

Speaking to Citi Business News at the sidelines of the launch of the policy, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku said the new window will also ensure government’s 1% tourism levy is retrieved from all stakeholders.

“The benefits are immense; especially when you go to hotels, how we collect our levy is quite a challenge. The operators will have to physically go to a bank to deposit what they will claim to be what they have collected in a year. Our government is losing out on revenue so once you automate these processes, every time a guest checks in, that one percent of the tourism levy will be automatically collected and at the end of the month it will be automatically deposited in government coffers” she stated.
