The Ghana Revenue Authority has closed down law firm, Peasah Boadu for owing taxes to the tune of 1,000,787 cedis.
The taxes in arrears are Corporate Income Taxes (CIT) and Pay as You Earn (PAYE).
The exercise was carried out by the Domestic Tax Revenue unit of the GRA in a bid to clamp down on some large al tax defaulters.
The Chief Revenue Officer of the told media men that the exercise should also serve as a deterrent for other potential defaulters.
They cannot enter the premises to conduct any business if possible they have a good payment plan. They owe in excess of 1 million including penalties for a period of about three years. The demand notice was issued in October 2017. We will not classify this as tax evasion but we can just say it is under-declaration.”
“They have up to ten days to come over and after that if they don’t come, we may decide on the next line of action,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the Ghana Revenue Authority embarked on a distress order to retrieve about 2 million cedis in tax arrears from the management of the Accra Mall in the morning.
The move was triggered after the company failed to pay the said taxes despite an expiration of the deadline about two months ago.
The amount which is taxes owed in VAT also followed an audit of the operations of the management of the mall by the GRA between 2013 and 2015.
