The Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Professor Alex Dodoo has cautioned that the authority will deal sternly with people who sell fake products to the public, especially within the festive season.
According to him, the GSA is taking action against people who circulate and sell counterfeit products to the public.
Prof. Dodoo was reacting to a video which had a man unwrap a Blue Jeans logo on canned energy drink to reveal the real identity.
The drink was covered with the Blue Jeans energy drink logo to deceive the public.
But commenting on the video, Prof. Dodoo assured that the authority will not let such actions slide.
“People who bring in products that have not been certified by either the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) or tested and approved by the Ghana Standards Authority are breaking the law and our job is to deal with it. I will check with the Food and Drugs Authority but we give you one promise; they will be held accountable to that. We therefore assure that we will act on it immediately” he affirmed.
He stated that it is a serious offence to deceive the general public by concealing the true identity of a product.
“The issue is that every drink coming to Ghana has some standards which must be maintained. Anybody bringing in the product which pretends to be another product is breaking the law and be it the Standards Authority or the Foods and Drugs Authority if it comes to our notice we will take action” he assured.
He maintained that the authority will make sure it deals with people who engage in such acts to serve as a deterrent.
