Newmont tops Ghana Club 100 rankings

General Manager for Newmont Golden Ridge Limited, Joep Coenen

Newmont Golden Ridge Limited has been crowned as the number one company at this year’s edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards.

The company beat off competition from over ninety other companies to assume the coveted position.

This is the second time the mining company has assumed the coveted position.

Aside winning the topmost award on the night, Newmont also picked 1st runner up in Corporate Social Responsibility as well as second runner up in most profitable company for the year.

An obviously elated General Manager for Newmont Golden Ridge Limited, Joep Coenen shared the rationale behind the success with Citi Business News.

“One thing that we are doing very differently is focusing on our environment, focusing on our safety, focusing on our community and it is my view that if you have those things right then the production and cost control and set up becomes again much easier, obviously we have to keep our cost under control because we no control over gold price,” he remarked.

MTN and GOIL assumed the second and third position in the Ghana Club 100. In addition, MTN picked the best company in child issues, large taxpayer as well as largest company categories.

Also, GOIL emerged 2nd runner up in largest company and 1st runner up for the best listed companies.

The Acting Corporate Services Executive at MTN, Samuel Koranteng shared his company’s secrets with Citi Business News.

“This evening is recognition of the hard work the management and staff of MTN have put into the business, as well as the support of our customers who we provide relevant products and services to.”

Speaking on behalf of the President, Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo stressed continuous investments to grow the private sector going forward.

In all, one hundred companies picked awards for their respective rankings in the Ghana Club 100 awards.

A couple of rural banks including Ahantaman Rural bank were listed as part of the top 100 businesses in Ghana.

Other companies awarded included; steel company, B5 metals, Ghana Home Loans, Starwin, among others.
