Some validated customers of DKM Microfinance who have not yet received their locked up investments have threatened to embark on a demonstration to express their grievances.
The validated customers say they have been neglected by government after they were promised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prior to the 2016 elections to help them retrieve their locked up money if voted into office.
“We want to go organize a press conference and then follow it with a demonstration, that’s what we are planning to do and we are leaving no stone unturned”, Spokesperson for DKM customers in Tamale, Mohammed Ibn Issaka said.
“We have realized that the government, having benefited from this whole thing, having promised us, and coming into power now has now forgotten about us”, he lamented.
It will be recalled that thousands of customers of DKM Microfinance Company lost their investments running into millions of cedis after the central bank in 2015 suspended the operations of DKM for violating the Banking Act.
Despite campaign promises in 2016 by the NPP government to pay the customers their monies, majority of them are yet to receive it.
Ibn Issaka stated that the customers are highly disappointed in the government for not fulfilling its campaign promise.
According to him, all efforts to reach government and the appropriate officials appointed to handle the issue have proved futile.
“They are now telling us that they never promised us anything, this is not a political issue but this is the reality, we are all in this country, we all listened to them in the media. In fact we were the ones campaigning for them to ensure their victory but today they have just forgotten about us,” Ibn Issaka said.
