Phoenix Insurance donates to University of Ghana

Phoenix Insurance Company Limited, a subsidiary of the CDH Group, has honored a pledge it made to the University of Ghana, by donating GHC 100,000 to the endowment fund of the University.

The amount is part of a GHC 250,000 pledge made by the Chief Executive Officer of the CDH Group, Mr. Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, during the November 2017 congregation ceremony of the College of Health Sciences, where he was the Guest Speaker.

According to the Managing Director of Phoenix Insurance, Henry Bukari, the donation to the University of Ghana’s endowment fund is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

The company stressed the importance of  supporting the governments’ efforts at improving the quality of the country’s human resource.

Speaking to Citi Business News on the sidelines of the donation, Henry Bukari touched on how critical it is for businesses, to help in developing Ghana’s human resource.

“The developed countries like the Asian tigers rely on the quality of their human capital, which is greatly improved through education. And so for us to develop as a country, we would need corporate Ghana to critically support the development of our human resources by supporting the educational institutions”

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Rev. Prof. Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, commended Phoenix Insurance Company Limited for being true to their word with the donation.

The amount is to help the university in its plans to expand infrastructure to accommodate the expected increase in the number of university students, with the introduction of Free SHS.

The amount is also expected to provide for bright but needy students, all in an effort to help improve the quality of graduates being produced by tertiary institutions.
