Business associations to meet over tax stamp on Friday

Business associations will tomorrow [2, 23,2018] meet to finalise talks on whether or not to implement the tax stamp scheduled for March  1st.

The businesses, earlier this week called on government to suspend the tax stamp implementation, complaining that they were not properly integrated into the implementation processes.

They have also threatened to withdraw their services and close down their businesses until their concerns are addressed by government.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana Samson Asaki Awingobit said a final decision will be arrived at tomorrow.

“We had an invitation from the AGI President regarding the press conference we had earlier this week, asking government to suspend the tax stamp policy. So we are looking forward to having a meeting with AGI on Friday (23rd February 2018) and from there we will release an official communiqué,” he said.

Meanwhile, government has threatened it will sanction businesses who fail to comply with the 1st March deadline for the implementation of the tax stamp.

A statement signed by a Deputy Finance Minister, Kwaku Kwarteng said government has since January this year, has collaborated with the business associations.

This is also expected to continue for the next six months.

The statement also assured of continuous engagement with eligible businesses on the implementation of the policy.

It further advised businesses to comply with the deadline as scheduled.
