Country Manager for Google’s CSquared, Estelle Akofio-Sowah has charged government to use its e-service initiatives to drive internet uptake in Ghana.
According to global digital agencies “We Are Social” and “Hootsuite”, only a little over 10 million Ghanaians, that’s 35% of the population, are using the internet.
In an interview with Citi Business News, Estelle Akofio-Sowah stated that increased uptake of the internet, will boost corporate and individual productivity in the country.
“More demand and usage of the internet can only help bring down price, which will lead to more usage and impact, but currently the market and the demand are still small and we need to drive that”.
He added that “When Ghanaians get to the point where they have to get online to register their business and pay their taxes, then you get to a point where such public services force people to use the internet and through that we can drive internet usage.”
Estelle Akofio-Sowah called on government to do more by ensuring that its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are primary users of the internet in their line of work.
Estelle Akofio-Sowah was speaking at the Vodacom Jazz Night powered by CSquared.
The semi-formal networking event featured product presentations and an interactive session, which brought together prospective clients and other stakeholders.
The event was used to introduce Vodacom, powered by CSquared as the preferred broadband provider for small, large and medium enterprises.
With emphasis on awareness creation, the event highlighted the products and services that Vodacom offers to the enterprise market and how CSquared’s metro fibre network enables Vodacom to meet the needs of the enterprise market in terms of speed, reliability and cost.
The Sales Head at Vodacom Business Ghana, Felicia Ohene, stated that the key benefits that consumers stand to enjoy apart from the great pricing packages they offer include infrastructure resilience, as well as uptime and performance.
Highlighting the cost-saving model that Vodacom Business Ghana runs, she stated that it allows people to leverage their large client base to negotiate better prices which is then passed on to their cherished customers.
According to her Ohene, its absolutely critical that small and medium-scale enterprises leverage the best internet infrastructure and services out there to better compete and enhance their productivity going forward.
