As Ghana and Nigeria work to deepen their trade and bilateral relationships, some Nigerian businesses seeking to operate in Ghana, have appealed for coordinated regulations to facilitate their expansion.
The businesses who consider Ghana as a haven for their investments believe such conditions should expedite their growth.
One of such businesses is the Chikason Group which is seeking to establish its operations in Ghana’s petroleum industry.
Its Executive Director, Chux Adike explains to Citi Business News peculiar challenges in securing a permit for their business.
According to him, the issue has been largely due to the absence of a complete system connecting the key regulatory bodies.
He believes there is the need to address the issues to bridge the widening gap between developing economies and developed ones due to the absence of competition.
“They are not even providing enough output to handle the Ghana space so the country is importing such products from other countries like Dubai which may even of less quality yet helping such economies create jobs for their people,” he noted.
Mr. Adike added, “We want to set up something similar that will also help create jobs and help the economy; these are the practical things that have to be dealt with; while the GIPC and Free Zones Board tried their best in terms of how best to deal with the issues the NPA was really adamant and insisted it has to be like that.”
Mr. Adike’s was speaking to Citi Business News on the margins of the maiden Ghangeria Rising conference in Accra.
The conference aims at deepening trade relations between Ghana and Nigeria by harnessing opportunities existing in the oil and gas, finance and agric sectors, among others.
