Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that government will ensure that both local and international automobile companies operating in Ghana, will be given equal incentives to enhance their operations.
Following the announcement by the President that German automobile company, VW, will set up a plant in Ghana, local automobile company, Kantanka expressed concerns over what they said was government’s hasty approach in signing the agreement for the establishment of the plant.
However addressing a meeting of industrialists in Accra, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed that Japanese automaker Nissan is also considering setting up an assembly plant in Ghana and that all such companies will be given good incentives to work with.
“We have talked about an automobile industry and the VW deal that has taken place, Nissan is also coming but we are not looking at it in the context of only one supplier like VW, we are looking at a policy that applies to the entire automobile industry,”
He added, “We have had discussions for example with our local producers like Kantanka to make sure that whatever incentives we are providing to all companies who are becoming interested our automobile industry like the Nissans and VWs, are also available to the Kantankas of Ghana so that they can also produce with those same types of incentives”.
