Customers of Vodafone should expect to have access of the telecom operator’s 4 G service by April next year. This is according to the company’s CEO, Yolanda Cuba.
The assurance follows the winning of the 2 by 5 Megahertz frequency spectrum block for mobile services by the company.
A statement from the NCA to Citi News confirmed the acquisition and indicated that Vodafone emerged winner following a successful financial negotiations.
Vodafone will have to pay thirty million dollars for the license.
In an interview with Citi Business News, CEO of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba said the company is hopeful to roll out the 4 G services between April and June next 2019.
“Customers should have access to the service between April and June next year, we are working around that and we are hoping to surprise customers soon”, she said.
Though MTN was the first to acquire a 4G licenses in 2015 at a cost of 67.5million dollars, Yolanda Cuba told Citi Business News she is optimistic the acquisition of the spectrum by Vodafone will make it the number one telecom operator in the country.
“Over the years we have been adjudged the telecom operator with the best voice quality as well as other categories so with our latest acquisition of the 4G spectrum I believe we will reclaim our position of the number one telecom operator in the country”
On how Vodafone will make up for the overall cost it will incur for the acquisition of the spectrum, Yolanda Cuba said the good services the company will roll out going forward will keep it on a good financial footing.
“It has come at a thirty million dollar cost and we actually have to also invest in physical infrastructure in order to operationalize the spectrum itself, so it’s not like we can switch on a switch and then all of it is done”.
Madame Cuba added, “So it’s going to be a long term investment, it’s not going to pay back tomorrow or the day after it’s going to be a long term process which will come with good service and pay off”.
