Mining support service companies are impressing upon the Minerals Commission to reduce what they say is a 500 percent increase in permit charges.
In a letter sent to the Minerals Commission and sighted by Citi Business News, the companies complain they were previously charged between GHS10,000 and GHS5000 for Sole Proprietorship per annum
for a permit to enable them render services to mining companies.
However, that amount has been increased to GHS50,000 and GHS25,000 for Sole Proprietorship.
The companies also complain that in addition to the above charges, contractors are also responsible to pay some amount of money to acquire permits for their workers in order to make them eligible to work at the mine site.
Meanwhile, Citi Business News sources at the Minerals Commission said the commission has begun discussions with the companies to have their grievances addressed.
