Nexans Kabelmetal unveils US$800,000 extrusion line

Local manufacturer of electrical cables, Nexans Kabelmetal, has unveiled a US$800,000 extrusion line while reiterating its commitment to producing quality electrical cables in response to the sub-standard cables which have flooded the Ghanaian market.

The Ghana Standards Authority has in recent years moved descended heavily on substandard cables saying that their use could potentially lead to unexpected fires and ultimately loss of property among other devastating effects.

Dr. Eric Waldner, Managing Director of the Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana, one of the country’s leading electrical cable producers, believes that the local manufacturers will need to do more to meet the market demands.

Dr. Waldner speaking at the company’s recent opening of a US$800,000 extrusion line at its facility in Tema said, the continuous investment will allow the company to meet produce very high standard cables which should create value for customers and the economy at large.

According to him, the new facility will increase the company’s production of copper wire from 200m per minute to 900 meters per minute.

The new extruder line replaces an old one which has been in operation for the past 30 years.

Meanwhile, Board Chairman of the company, Ing. Samuel Boakye Appiah, revealed that the company is currently undertaking feasibility studies on the production of medium to high voltage cables to meet growing local demand.
