Business Development Minister Mohammed Ibrahim Awal has called on Chinese businesses to partner Ghanaian businesses to help realize the country’s goal of becoming the hub of manufacturing in West Africa.
The minister while delivering his keynote address at the opening of the three-day China Trade Week Ghana 2019 in Accra called on Ghanaian businesses to move away from exporting raw materials but rather work towards adding value to their products.
He entreated Chinese businesses to partner local ones to be able to achieve Ghana’s target of becoming a manufacturing hub in West Africa.
“As a government, we are very much committed, we have to move to an efficiency driven economy. We cannot continue to export only our raw materials for the world, it will not help us we must add value. That is why Ghana and China should cooperate together. I want to urge Chinese businesses to partner with their Ghanaian counterparts to help make Ghana the hub for manufacturing in West Africa”, he urged.
Chief Executive Officer at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwesi Agyemang, on his part said the partnership will boost business opportunities for the tourism industry.
Meanwhile the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang encouraged the Chinese businesses to continue to invest in Ghana to realize the goal set by the government.
