The Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC) has announced plans to grow 100 climate entrepreneurs within the areas of energy efficiency, domestic waste management, solar energy, water supply management and purification, as well as climate smart agriculture in the next five years.
The businesses are expected to generate a cumulative revenue of four million dollars within the 5 year period.
Speaking at the first Citi Business Festival partnership outdoor event with the GCIC and Ashesi University, Executive Director of the GCIC, Ruka Sanusi said there must be special fiscal policies to encourage entrepreneurs.
She pointed out that government policies aimed at nurturing entrepreneurs should not be general but must be climate sensitive.
“We believe that intentional entrepreneurial systems is needed, responsive financial and technical support, and multiplication of fiscal policies being private sector led growth is needed to deliver socio and economic transformation,” she said.
She observed that supporting entrepreneurs and ventures involved in developing profitable and locally-appropriate solutions to climate change will attract the needed financial support and help create sustainable jobs.
