On Saturday, June 29, 2019, the Citi Business Festival’s This is Ghana Exhibition and Fair will provide more than a platform for young entrepreneurs to show their craft.
On exhibition will be passion and desire to make Ghana a better place; to make the Ghanaian dream a reality for a number of young business owners.
Noel Nutsugah, CEO of Warm Their Feet shoes, and Priscilla Priscilla Korlekour Agyeman, founder of Kor.Le.Kuor Accessories, are two of the exhibitors that will take part in Saturday’s event.
For the two, their entrepreneurial journeys had started under various circumstances although there was a familiar denominator: their passion.
Noel, a broadcast journalism lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism was inspired by the death of his late mother to start his company. As he puts it when he appeared on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday morning, he commenced the business to allow him to make savings to cater for the needs of deprived school kids.
His mom, a retired educationist, was so fond of kids and would normally provide a haven for such kids but her death pushed Noel to commence a project that affords him an opportunity to honour her memory.
It’s been two years now, and according to Noel, come December this year, the company will be making its first community outreach in a village near Sogakope. There, shoes will be provided for school kids without shoes to warm their feet.
Currently, Noel’s company focuses on making comfy stylish desert boots. His raw materials are sourced locally and labour too, he tells Citi Breakfast Show. At the This is Ghana exhibition this weekend, he promises to offer exciting discounts to patrons.
Ms. Agyeman’s Korlekuor Accessories is guaranteeing up to 30 percent discount for her beads and accessories on Saturday. Her business which was founded after she quit her corporate job focuses on using recycled glass bottles for her colourful and delicate beads.
She believes her desire is to create an environmentally friendly business which pays her as well. While the journey has been worth her while so far, she believes that the government can do more for SMEs like hers.
Some of the key challenges she lists include access to market, affordable credit facilities among others. On Saturday, Pricilla and Noel will be among the 70 SMEs that will be taking part in the This is Ghana Exhibition and Fair.
