Kinross’ Chirano receives two awards on environmental preservation

Chirano Gold Mines Limited a subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corporation has been awarded the Best Company in Environmental Protection and Best Company Onsite Safety Awareness and Communication.

The Awards represent yet another recognition of the dedication of Chirano towards upholding the Kinross value of putting people first.

The Award according to the company also represents the dedication to protecting the environment, while representing only a part of the significant contribution Chirano has made towards preserving, protecting and reclaiming the forest eco-system within which it operates.

Chirano contributed approximately USD400 million to the national economy through taxes and royalties paid to the government and USD 257 million through wages and salaries paid to employees, approximately 98% of whom are Ghanaian.

The company has also provided numerous business opportunities to local contractors, with nearly USD1.5billion spent on goods and services with local companies since 2011, and with 72% of all procurement at Chirano done in-country in 2017.

Kinross Chirano paid a dividend of USD13million to the government of Ghana, after declaring a USD130million profit.
