US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce has revealed that a US$10,000 grant will be given to the alumni of the Women in Entrepreneurship program, as part of the Alumni TIES initiative, to expand their businesses.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Ms Royce is optimistic this will strengthen women’s capacity to enter and succeed in the workforce. She made these remarks on a visit to Ghana to launch the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs program.
“I am pleased to announce that with the Alumni TIES program, you will have the opportunity to compete for small grants of up to 10,000 dollars to support community-based projects in your countries,” she said.
This, she says, will also grant them access to markets, market information, tech solutions and skilled networks.
The program, among others, is to create and sustain a better business climate for women through business development and trade, share best practices in expanding or initiating outreach to women to create new or maintain existing mentoring programs for women entrepreneurs, develop strategies for overcoming disparities in income and opportunity for women in business and entrepreneurship in Africa. In all, 38 applicants are eligible to apply whereas 67 grants will be awarded.
