Be realistic about fiscal prospects — Terkper tells Ofori-Atta

The former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has stated that there is the need for the Akufo-Addo government to be realistic about where they intend taking the country.

With the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta scheduled to present the mid-year budget review to Parliament on Monday, his predecessor is arguing that the government is crumbling under the weight of a number of promises made while the party was in opposition.

Mr. Terkper responding to a question posed to him by Citi Business News regarding government’s ability to shore up domestic revenue mentioned that some policies being implemented by the Akufo-Addo government, although popular, are draining the country of revenues.

He labeled these policies which include the Free Senior High School Education as unsustainable. According to him, the additional petroleum revenue provided some buffer to the policy, but this was only one-time whereas expenditure kept expanding.
